Paul Tepsich, CFA

Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager

Paul founded High Rock Capital in 2010. Prior to founding High Rock, he worked at Merrill Lynch Canada Inc for over 17 years trading all sectors of the Canadian fixed income market but with a particular focus on high yield, distressed debt, and capital structure arbitrage. It was there Paul developed deep fundamental research and financial modeling skills. He was Head of Canadian Credit Trading and a direct report to the President of Merrill Lynch Canada Inc. and was responsible for portfolios totaling up to $13 billion until his departure in 2008.

From 2009 until 2010, Paul was a Portfolio Manager at a Toronto and Calgary-based investment firm, where he was the lead manager for two newly formed long/short high yield bond funds.

​At High Rock, Paul is the Portfolio Manager for both our Private Client and our Special Mandates . His work is largely focused on “bottom-up” fundamental research and security selection, purchase and sale decisions. He is also the Chief Compliance Officer/Ultimate Designated Person (CCO/UDP) and works closely with Dianne on ensuring High Rock is meeting or surpassing the ever-changing securities registration requirements and obligations.

Paul has been a frequent guest speaker on BNN and has also been a guest lecturer (3yrs) for Queen’s University, Master of Finance, where he lectured on Credit, High Yield, Distressed Debt, and Fundamental Analysis/Modeling.

Paul grew up in Burlington but has lived in Toronto for over 30 years. He has been actively involved in the cycling community in Toronto and is a former Board Member of the Morning Glory Cycling Club where he initiated and chaired the Club’s philanthropy committee. Along with road cycling, Paul is also an avid runner, skier, and a passionate outdoorsman.

Paul holds a BA in Financial Studies/Economics (1985) from King’s College (University of Western Ontario) and is a CFA charterholder (1991).
